This KA-BAR Short is the smaller version of the KA-BAR 1214 USMC. Materials, finishes, shapes: all the same. Only the size has been reduced to 75% of the original. The blade is made from 1095-carbon steel. This steel, however, is not corrosion-resistant. Fortunately the blade is enhanced with a black coating to make sure maintenance is a lot easier.
